How Can A Travel Nursing Agency Help Me?

If you are interested in travel nursing while not sure what to do, a travel nursing agency will help you to get what you want.

Travel nursing agencies work for both travel nurses or potential travel nurses and hospitals experiencing nursing shortage across the country. They will search through job postings and submit your profile to the hospital. Then, they will make detailed offers to travel nurses. Depending on the agency choice, salaries and benefits, such as housing, health insurance, license reimbursement, car rental and other services, will vary.

How To Prepare When Looking For A Travel Nursing Job?

When looking for travel nurse jobs, you need to be “PART” — Prepared, Aware, Realistic, and Time conscious.

Be Prepared

It is important that you are prepared to demonstrate your qualifications at any time. Any nursing placement agency will require copies of your current Nursing, Operating Room Technician or Allied Health Professional Licences. Also you will need to show them the experience you have in any specialized field. Plus you will need to provide them with verification of all your certificates, education and experience. So if you do not want to end up with the less desired positions then remember to go prepared.

Be Aware

You should make sure that the placement agency is aware of what types of facilities you are best suited to. Inform them if you are interested in teaching or non-teaching facilities or whether you prefer a large or small facility? Also whether you wish to work as part of large or small team? As long as you make your preferences clear from the beginning your are more than likely going to find the placement of your dreams in the type of environment that suits your skills the best.

Be Realistic

It is vital that you understand the concept of pay rates as many of the higher paying positions offer more money for a reason. So before you accept a higher paying position make an attempt to find out the reasons for this. If you carry out this research before taking up a position you are less likely to step into something that is unexpected and which you may find you are unable to cope with. Although most nurse practitioner jobs are well paid, being realistic is always welcome.

Be Time Conscious

Give them an idea of the time frame in which you wish to remain in a position although the industry standard for nursing assignments is 13 weeks there are some assignments which may be shorter or longer than this. So it is important that you know when you plan to leave and whether you would like to apply for extensions whilst you are there. By giving the placement agency this type of information you are giving them the time they need to find you a position which will fit your future and moving schedule.

What Is A Travel Nurse?

In response to the nursing shortage in the United States, travel nursing and travel nursing industry developed in order to enable nurses travel to work temporary short-term nursing positions.

Travel nurses will be able to work outside of their home state, and travel around the nation while work for different medical institutions.

Why Travel Nursing?

Hospitals often offers many benefits and incentives to travel nurses, including higher wages, relocation assistance, furnished housing, and bonuses. With travel nursing you will find that the pay is better for doing the same job you would do at home elsewhere. Plus with travel nursing employment you can earn lots of money in a few years rather than earning the same amount whilst slaving away in a similar job back home for a decade and which will also include few benefits as well.

In addition to financial benefits, travel nursing provides you with adventure and fun. Traveling around to experience different locations, people, food, and culture is always exciting. Unlike regular nurse practitioner jobs， travel nursing is more flexible and beneficial.

Am I Qualified To Be A Travel Nurse?

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) in the US devised a plan called “the mutual recognition model“, which allows nurses to practice across state boundaries with one license required. Thus, the Interstate Compact works similarly to driver licenses. As long as the state passed the compact, any nurse licensed in any other state will be able to practice there. If both your home state and the state that you wish to practice in have passed the interstate compact then you will have a license from your home state and not need one for the state where you will be working. However if the other state is not part of the interstate compact then you will need a license from that state as well.

The map indicate which states have enacted the RN and LPN/VN Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). [July 2008]
